9 Tips how to get rid of negativity
1. Laugh more-especially at yourself
Life gets busy, our schedules fill up, we get into relationships, and work can feel task oriented and routine-driven at times. Being human can feel more like being a robot. But having this work-driven, serious attitude often results in negative and performance oriented thinking. Becoming positive means taking life less seriously and letting yourself off the hook. This is the only life that you get to live - why not lighten up your mood?
Laughter helps us become positive by lightening our mood and reminding us not to take life so seriously. Are you sensitive to light sarcasm? Do you have trouble laughing at jokes? Usually, people who are stressed out and overly serious get most offended by sarcasm because their life is all work and no play. If we can learn to laugh at ourselves and our mistakes, life will become more of an experiment in finding out what makes us happy. And finding happiness means finding positivity.
2. Take a walk
Because thoughts arise in the mind, it's easy to assume that's where they're formed. Well, that's only partly true. Sometimes our thoughts are a product of our environment. For example, if you surrounded yourself with negative people and negative imagery, you'd probably start to think negatively in turn. Stepping away from a negative environment can help immensely. Take a walk alone away from your usual atmosphere. Head somewhere uplifting like a park or museum. Time spent distancing yourself from those negative influences can bring you great peace of mind.
3. Take full responsibility; stop being the victim
You are responsible for your thoughts. People that consistently believe that things happen to them handicap themselves to a victim mentality. This is a subtle and deceptive negative thought pattern. Phrases like "I have to work" or "I can't believe he did that to me" are indicators of a victim mentality. Blaming circumstances and blaming others only handicaps our decision to change something negative into something positive.
Taking full responsibility for your life, your thoughts and your actions is one of the biggest steps in creating a more positive life. We have unlimited potential within to create our own reality, change our life, and change our thoughts. When we begin to really internalize this, we discover that no one can make us feel or do anything. We choose our emotional and behavioral response to people and circumstances.
4. Clean up!
Every time you get rid of clutter, dirt and dust, and straighten up and organize your belongings, you are restoring order. Think about it - a clean, orderly space feels light and bright - lightness and brightness are very high-vibrating energies! Your home and workplace are not only concentrations of your energy, but they are reflections of your inner state. Clean up your mind with the right use of the word "but." Every time you think or say a negative phrase, add "but" to the end and add a positive statement to neutralize it.
5. Avoid negative people
Very simply said, these complainers, drama queens, energy vampires and downers just drag you down. Make excuses, just do what you can to keep your distance.
6. Talk it out
Sometimes negative thinking occurs because you have issues or emotions you need to get out. It's not good to keep things to yourself. If you have something that needs to be addressed, you should talk through them with someone.Putting things into words gives your thoughts shape and form. That can help you put things into perspective so you can deal with them at the root of the problem.
7. Be creative
When negative thoughts come, it can pay to spend some time creatively. Find a creative outlet for your thoughts. Write things out. Draw or paint something. As long as you're using your creativity to get your negativity out, it can work. Exploring your emotions through creativity acts like auto-therapy and can elevate your mood. Creativity can feel like a release. When you put your emotions through an art form, you get them out of your system and clear them out. Enjoying the things you love allows you to feel positive, happy and joyful. When we do things that feel good and that bring us happiness, we disengage negativity.
8. Believe in Something Stronger, Smarter, and More Loving than You
In order to dramatically increase your physical health and happiness, you're going to need to be able to surrender your frustrations to something Higher than you. Otherwise, all the world's problems might drive you nutty. A spiritual or religious tradition can work. It really helps to imagine that there is an infinite field of intelligence, compassion and creativity of which you and everyone is a part - but, if that's too squishy for you, maybe you can simply remember that, even though you don't have all the answers, you still have faith that the planet will be spinning tomorrow just like it did today.
9. Start Fantasizing
Turn off the television, turn off your phone, and go for a walk. Let your mind wander about something like this. What are you dreaming about? In your daydreams, where are you? What are you wearing? How, exactly, are you feeling? Who is with you? Who will always be there when you need help? At this point in the process, you want to avoid critiquing your own thoughts, or evaluating what's realistic or obtainable: let your imagination run wild!Special thanks to https://www.lifehack.org, https://blog.mindvalley.com, https://www.pickthebrain.com, http://sheerbalance.com and https://overfiftyandfit.com for inspiration.
